Who Needs Tibet Permit to Tibet and Who Don’t Need It?
a. Tibet Entry Permit for the Majority of International Tourists
Due to Tibet's unique ethnic traditions, cultural heritage, tourist service facilities, reception capacity, ecological protection needs and traffic situation, the National Tourism Administration prescribed that international tourists, like US citizens, Canadian citizens, and UK citizens and German citizens and French citizens, and Spanish citizens, and other tourists from the west and Asian countries, have to get a Tibet Travel Permit before you are allowed to enter Tibet.
Currently, Tibet Permit is readily available for Norwegian citizens. For Bhutan citizen, you can get your Tibet Permit to visit Tibet only through the help of Pilgrim Center (non-governmental) in Tibet. With the exception of Bhutan citizens and Indian pilgrims to Mt.Kailash, and in other extreme situations, we can help all the international tourists get your Tibet Permit.
All tourists can get it through a travel agency except for diplomats, journalists and government officials. You have to go through the Tibet Foreign Affairs Office.
b. Tibet Travel Permit for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan Residents:
For the residents of Hong Kong and Macau, there is no need to apply for the Tibet travel permit (Tibet visa). All you need to take is your HK/Macau SAR Passport and Home Return Permit.
While the Chinese living in Taiwan or Taiwan residents, you need to get Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents (MTP) and Tibet Travel Permit to visit Tibet.
Meanwhile, to the global overseas Chinese, if you don’t have Chinese ID or travel to Tibet as an overseas Chinese immigrant, you still need to get China visa and Tibet Travel Permit to visit Tibet.
c. Tibet Visa for Indian Citizens
